Is CBD safe?

With day-to-day developments in the medical field, various health benefits of cannabis – also known as medical marijuana – have been introduced. This has raised curiosity in the public about the use of the once-categorized dangerous drug as a medicinal alternative. Cannabis consists of numerous components, out of which CBD and THC are the two prime cannabinoids. CBD is the non-toxic part of the cannabis plant. It is being legalized all over the world for its non-psychoactive and therapeutic properties.

THC, on the other hand, has psychoactive effects, and despite being a source of many health benefits, it is still considered in much of the world as an illegal drug. With the countless advantages CBD has to offer, people cannot wait to try it and observe its miraculous effects. However, since it is associated with a formerly-considered dangerous drug, a question still stays in mind; is CBD safe?

What is CBD?

Before understanding the impact of CBD and the answer to is CBD safe, we should know what it actually is. CBD is one of the 113 cannabinoids extracted from medical marijuana. It is the non-psychoactive part of the plant, which means that it is not capable of getting you high. Cannabidiol or CBD is a special plant-based compound, which produced when Cannabidiolic Acid goes through the process of decarboxylation – or is heated. It was discovered in 1942 by Roger Adams, an American Chemist.

Is it safe to use CBD?

Although many things about the use of CBD are ambiguous, it is still one of the most tolerated medicinal drugs by people. There is no adequate proven dosage of CBD products but the FDA is working to open up more research to help answer these questions for consumers. The medical experts advise taking small amounts at the start and then gradually increase the dosage. It is considered one of the safest ways to use CBD.

Many often ask is CBD safe and what dose is right? There is no proof that you can overdose on CBD. However, it should be considered that anything in excess might be dangerous, and you should consume the right amount of CBD as suggested by your doctor or the expert. The dosage can be different for different kinds of issues.

Even though CBD is well-endured by consumers, CBD still carries a few risks. These are a few of the minor side-effects, which may disturb you at the start of a CBD routine. However, those effects are nothing many cannot deal with. Some of the side-effects of CBD are as follows:

  • It may cause sleepiness, drowsiness.
  • It causes changes in appetite.
  • It may cause diarrhea- when in excess.
  • It causes fatigue.
  • Nausea or vomiting is also one of the common symptoms.
  • There may be a chance that CBD interacts with other medicinal drugs inside our body. It can cause the thinning of the blood.

CBD has surfaced as a somewhat unknown therapeutic product, which surprisingly has many health benefits to offer. It is available in different forms, which include edibles, oil, ointments, vaporizers, patches, etc. These forms can be utilized depending upon various health issues. Even though there are not many studies on the safety of CBD, it is for sure that with the advancing research, more and better benefits of CBD will be documented for the general public. Till then, we should relish the present plusses of the plant and do our best in leading a healthy life.
