CBD Oil vs CBD Tincture

CBD and THC

When we think about Cannabis, CBD and THC are its two most talked about cannabinoids. CBD has garnered popularity among all walks of life due to its medicinal properties, such as anti-inflammatory, anti-anxiety, and potent analgesic capabilities. Scientific studies also support the ability of CBD to manage and aid in the healing of various health conditions.

CBD is available in several different forms and types of products depending on the need and preference of application. Consumers can use CBD as oils, capsules, gummies, creams, and lotions. It’s also important to note that the CBD industry is complex and labeling/ packaging can get confusing, we will discuss CBD oil vs CBD tincture a bit further in this article.

CBD Oil

CBD oil is the purest form of CBD, and it is obtained by extracting the oil from the flowers, stalks, and seeds of the hemp plant. CBD oil also contains fatty acids, nutrients, essential vitamins apart from cannabinoids. CBD oil contains base oil or carrier oil that dilutes the CBD so that the body can easily absorb it. The following oils are some of the top used as a base:
  • Coconut oil
  • Hemp seed oil
  • Vegetable glycerin base
  • MCT oil

What is CBD tincture?

It is already known that any medication that contains some concentration of alcohol is called a tincture here’s where we look deeper into how CBD oil vs CBD tincture. CBD tincture is obtained from the hemp plant, but they are not the same as CBD oil. 60 to 70% distilled alcohol is used to suspend CBD. Apart from CBD, the following ingredients could be present in tinctures:
  • Vitamins like D, C, B12
  • Melatonin
  • Water
  • Cinnamon
  • Herbs
  • Alcohol
  • Glycerin
  • Essential oils
CBD tincture can be used sublingually, just like CBD oils. There is a wide range of CBD in tinctures which can be very low if the quality is poor. As compared to CBD oil, they have a longer shelf life, and the dosage of CBD tinctures varies from person to person.

CBD Oil vs CBD Tincture - How are they different?

Bioavailability

CBD oil has less bioavailability as compared to CBD tincture because of the presence of alcohol in tinctures. Alcohol also serves as a preservative, thereby enhancing the shelf life of CBD.

Difference of Base Oils

In the tincture base is alcohol, but in CBD oils, the base's function is carried out by a carrier oil. CBD oil and tinctures are both good, and the base difference does not affect CBD's therapeutic properties. Both products are widely used to relieve anxiety, stress, and inflammation.

Method of Consumption

CBD oil can be consumed by vaping or sublingually. Tinctures can also be used sublingually, but are also the most preferred type of CBD for mixing into food. CBD oil is very pure, so it gives an unpleasant weedy taste. Whereas tinctures are available on the market in different flavors such as mint, chocolate, strawberry, and lime, making them easy to consume.

Difference in price

The price of CBD products depends upon the extraction method, potential, and strength of CBD. The cost of 500ml of tincture and CBD oil is almost the same, but high-quality CBD oil is often more expensive than a tincture.

Both products are slightly different from each other, but one thing in common: it cannot make a person intoxicated or in other words, get you high. The decision between CBD tincture and CBD oil is a personal preference and for us, at Rocky Ford Farms we choose to create an essential oil CBD tincture made from pure hemp extract harvested from our farms in Rocky Ford, Colorado.

As the CBD market matures the grey areas such as labeling will become defined for the industry, but until then as a wholesaler to countries outside the US, we worked to help satisfy the current requests and where possible define standards of practice. That includes labeling our CBD origin and type; our CBD is hemp-derived and broad-spectrum.
